My mom and Greg’s cousin Neil arrived in Dublin and took the train into Galway. Since we were picking them up, we ventured into the city early to check it out.

As luck would have it, this was the day of the All Ireland Hurling Final, and Galway’s team was in. While we were in town the place quickly filled with fans ready to cheer on their team from the many pubs in the city centre. Someone had commented that out of all the counties in Ireland, all but one were cheering for Galway. That was pretty evident from the maroon and purple flags signs and other items we found wherever we went.

Once we picked up the travelers, we headed back to Doolin. On the way we stopped in Kilshanney, where we caught the last few minutes of the hurling final, and Neil had his first Guinness in Ireland.

The game ended in a rematch, which means it will be replayed September 30th. Greg has already started the search for a place where we can watch it in Toronto.
