Day four started with a drive from Birr to Enniskillen. Another beautiful day, and the three hour drive was a scenic one. Enniskillen is located in Northern Ireland. There’s really no change when moving from one country to another. The big difference is the colour of the road line change, and the signs in Northern Ireland do not include Gaelic.

County Fermanagh, where Enniskillen is located, holds a special connection for Greg as it’s where the Maguire (his mothers clan) roots originated. And Enniskillen Castle was built by Hugh the Hospitable Maguire and served as the hub of the Maguires for centuries. We couldn’t miss the opportunity to pay a visit. I came across pictures of the castle when researching our trip, and was surprised at how small the castle actually is.

We had lunch at a pub called The Linen House, we’re we met Frank form Belfast. I found out the hard way he was a Republican when I mentioned Prince William and Kate in conversation. He was not pleased!

Dinner was fish and chips in Derrygonnelly. The town is very small and off the beaten path but the food – care of Chips & Co. – was grand.

On the way back to our B&B we stopped at a nearby church and met Blane who was opening up the church for choir practice. Turns out he and the church have multiple ties to Toronto. Small world.

Our B&B for this night was a dairy farm located on Lough Erne. Greg was in heaven.

I was in heaven over the view…
