As has become typical of the trip we started the morning with a wee hour stroll of the core of Dublin. The stroll helped to stabilize the noggin from the night before in the pub (see Day 2).
On to the car hire: The best way to test a relationship I suspect is to put the two of us in a car together in a strange country where the steering wheel is on the right side. That’s right as a opposed to left and not right as opposed to wrong. In this case it may have been wrong because Heather was behind the wheel. She was absolutely amazing and very quick to adapt to roads not much wider than the car itself.
A three hour drive from Dublin to Limerick brought us to our first marriage appointment with Marie, the Registrar. Lovely woman, and very patient walking us through all of the legalities. I guess I’m going through with it.
After all was confirmed and Marie knew I was serious we made our way to Birr in Offaly County for a stay at the Minnocks B&B. From our window we could see yearling Holstein calves and the most incredible crops of hay.
Dinner was to be a two kilometer walk away but given my recent diet the walk was needed. I will need to be on a strict menu of salad and granola after all the fish and chips.
You’re a brave colleen Heather! Driving in Ireland which as I recall involves a fair amount of backing up when you meet other vehicles is not for the faint of heart. It was scary enough for me as a passenger.
Fortunately we’ve only had one occasion where we’ve had to reverse …for a big tour bus no less. So far! And Greg has been a fantastic passenger and navigator. I couldn’t imagine driving by myself.
Looks like you are both having so much fun. Glad to see the weather is so nice. I fondly recall the driving challenge – we almost got hit by a bus when I was driving our car and did a u turn. Aunt Elaine, Aunt Ellen and Grandma thoroughly enjoyed the close call. 🙂
I know the feeling…There are tour buses everywhere! And the narrow roads give very little room for error. Especially when driving a wider car than usual! Greg has been a good sport, and ready to tell me when I get too close to those stone walls that sit right alongside the road.
